In 1972, on December 19, Apollo 17, the last manned lunar mission to date, splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean, concluding the Apollo program and signaling the end of the first era of human exploration of the moon.
The Apollo 17 crew consisted of three members: Commander Eugene Cernan, Ronald Evans, and Harrison "Jack" Schmitt.
