Melotte 20 or Collinder 39 is a large open star cluster around alpha Persei (Mirfak), the 1.8mag bright main star of the constellation Perseus. The core area is shown in the photo. Many stars are already visible to the naked eye. The star cluster includes a total of around 1,700 stars and is around 570 light-years away. Its age is estimated to be only around 50-70 million years.
