🚀 NASA is getting ready for a major new chapter in space exploration.

On August 30, 2026, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is scheduled to launch from Florida aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy. What sets Roman apart is its extraordinary field of view—its main camera can capture an area of sky at least 100 times larger than Hubble’s, allowing scientists to survey vast regions of the universe at incredible speed.

Over its mission, Roman is expected to study light from roughly one billion galaxies while investigating some of astronomy’s biggest mysteries: dark energy, dark matter, galaxy formation, stellar evolution, and planets beyond our solar system.

Scientists expect Roman could find more than 1,000 exoplanets using gravitational microlensing, while also helping test new technologies for directly imaging nearby worlds.

Positioned around one million miles from Earth near the Sun-Earth L2 point, Roman is planned to operate for at least five years.

And Roman isn’t replacing Hubble or James Webb—it’s adding a powerful new perspective. Hubble excels at detailed observations of smaller regions, Webb explores incredibly faint and distant objects in infrared, while Roman will rapidly map enormous portions of the sky.

Together, these observatories could help scientists piece together an unprecedented story of how galaxies, stars, and planetary systems evolved—and perhaps reveal new clues about why our universe is expanding faster and faster. 🌌🔭
