The Voyager 1 Will Cross The 1 Light-Day Threshold On November 18, 2026. That's Almost 16 Billion Miles Away...

NASA estimates that on November 18, 2026, at 2:16:07 a.m. PST, Voyager 1 will shatter records by becoming the very first human-created object to travel one light-day away from Earth—a staggering 16.1 billion miles (25.9 billion km).
A light-day measures the distance light covers in a 24-hour period. Crossing this boundary means that any radio command sent from Earth will require a full day just to reach the spacecraft. If Voyager 1 responds instantly, its signal will take another 24 hours to journey back home.
